Welcome to Drop Dead Red

Drop Dead Red is the portfolio website of Heather Mallon, a Graphic Designer currently working at Block CPM in Belfast and previously of Urban 3D in Derry/Londonderry.

A little bit about me…

I am a Graphic Designer from Belfast. I have graduated from the Ulster University Magee, with a BDes in Design. I have previously graduated from a HND in Graphic Design from Belfast Metropolitan College with a Merit.

Other than Graphic Design I have an active interest in Japan and Japanese culture, I am currently studying Japanese in my spare time and wish to visit the country again in the future. I also like to play video games and read various things such as comics, manga, novels and short stories. I also have an interest in photography although I haven’t been able to take as many photos as I would like.

Software Knowledge and Experience

For the past six years, since I started studying for my HND, I have been slowly gathering an array of knowledge of many different software programs and packages.

Adobe Creative Suite

General Use

I have used a lot of programs from the Creative Suite but I am most experienced in three programs,
which are the ones I use the most.

InDesign

90%

This is one of the main three programs I use frequently in the Creative Suite. I am very familiar with this program but still have some room for improvement.

Illustrator

This is another of the main three programs I use frequently in the Creative Suite. I am very familiar with this program but again still have some room for improvement.

Photoshop

This is the last of the main three programs I use frequently in the Creative Suite. I am very familiar with this program but, as with the others, I still have some room for improvement.

Dreamweaver

Although I had been coding HTML and CSS for a few years, I only started to use Dreamweaver in the last few years. I am currently only familiar with the HTML and CSS aspects of the program and have yet to use it for JavaScript or PHP.

Premiere and After Effects

I started using these programs at the same time and have a working knowledge of both programs.
I only started using them in the last couple of years and still have a lot to learn from them.

Operating System

General Use

My main OS is Windows but I have also used Mac to a highly functional level.

Windows

This is my main OS and the one I have the most experience with.

Mac

I first used a Mac in 2011 and have used them on and off for the past six years. I’m not as familiar with it as I am with Windows but I can work with it to a highly functional degree.

Web Design

General Use

For the past few years I have had a basic, working knowledge of HTML and CSS but I have recently expanded my knowledge by beginning to use WordPress. This has helped me get a better understanding of more advanced HTML and CSS and also a small glimpse at JavaScript and PHP. I hope to soon learn more about coding in PHP and JavaScript but have yet to begin.

WordPress

I only started to use WordPress in the last few years and have been steadily expanding my knowledge of it. I have quickly become very familiar with it’s basic functions and am quite confident when it comes to using it to build websites. I have also dabbled in editing themes for a more unique and customised user experience.

HTML and CSS

65%

Although I have a working knowledge of HTML and CSS, due to the ever growing environment I cannot say that I am extremely proficient. With more and more ways of experimenting with HTML and CSS being discovered all the time I am constantly learning when it comes to this area. I soon hope to expand even further by beginning to work with JavaScript and PHP which will greatly expand my knowledge.
